Return of a Legend: The Fast-Growing, Disease-Resistant American Chestnut

Blight resistant Chestnut tree produces bushels of delicious nuts!

The Hybrid American Chestnut tree has changed the lives of American chestnut growers for the better! With good quality nuts and high blight resistance, this is a top choice for nut growers all over the USA.

Bright green foliage lines the branches of this fast-growing nut tree. It has an upright growing habit with a canopy that produces tons of shade. Castanea dentata x mollissima is a deciduous tree. The blight-resistant American chestnut leaves drop over winter.

In the spring, white flowers will form that eventually mature into large brown nuts. The hybrid American chestnut tree can start blooming from April through June and will drop nuts in the fall months of September and October.

How Rare Are American Chestnut Trees?

The American chestnut tree has been critically endangered for years, with very few fully matured American chestnuts remaining. When Chinese Chestnut trees were introduced into our landscapes during the early 19th century, a susceptibility to blight occurred and killed many of the edible chestnut forests. Luckily, the hybrid American chestnut tree was cross-bred to allow for resistance to the blight while restoring chestnut seedlings all over where they once grew across North America!

Are the Nuts from American Chestnut Trees Edible?

Absolutely! If you’re shopping for a fruit or nut tree to bring fresh grown treats into your backyard, then a hybrid American chestnut tree is a great choice. The crunchy and sweet nuts that they produce are tasty on their own, but are also great when roasted, added to soups, or used in desserts. Hybrid American chestnuts are also commonly used to feed wildlife such as deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and bears. It is the very best tree for attracting deer and wildlife into your yard or landscape. American forests used to be loaded with chestnuts that were plentiful for the wildlife to snack on. Hybrid American chestnut trees will bear fruit in 1-3 years after planting. It is one of the most sought after and high demand nut trees in the US.

How Big Do Hybrid American Chestnut Trees Get?

Hybrid American chestnut trees can grow with a central leader of 40 to 60 feet tall, a trunk circumference over 10 feet, and a full width between 30 and 40 feet wide as they mature. In the right conditions, these trees can grow 4 to 7 feet in a year. They are easy to grow and can produce up to 20 lbs of nuts per tree after only 10 years. As the hybrid American chestnut matures, it may produce as much as 50-100 lbs per tree. It is one of the best producing chestnut trees in America!

Good product
Let me tell you just how much I love this can opener. I am 80 yrs old and the hand opener was becoming a real challenge to use, this is sooooooo easy, holds it's charge for a long time and the lids don't have any rough edges. Great product for an excellent price.

It worked on all size of cans
Eh pretty good for the whopping 3 weeks I had it. Came home one day and it was broken. It still operated. As in all functions were there but it wouldn't latch onto cans anymore. I think one of my adult kids dropped it. Honestly surprised motor still operated after it's drop.

Didn't work out for me after a few uses.
Broke after only like 5 uses...not worth the money. Doesn't stay sharp nor does it auto-clamp onto cans after such uses. Thought it worked only to find out it didn't cut the can and left little metal shavings from just kinda "scratching" the can and I ended up getting a splinter. Thought it was low on battery and fully charged only for it to keep not cutting the can. Trashed it just gonna buy a regular stand up from walmart or something.

Easy to use without any effort
Color: Orange
Needed a small space electric opener to help with opening cans due to arthritis. Manual ones were difficult to use. This fits in the palm of your hand and is easy to attach to can. It opens regular size cans easily, although it is a bit slow. The one can it didn't work well on was Fancy Feast Cat Food cans. Seems to leave a sliver of metal on the edge, very tiny but of concern. Contacted customer service and they were excellent - quick responses and very helpful at working with me to see if it was just the fancy feast can or the opener. Seems that those two just don't work well together. They even sent me a second opener so that we could try to recreate the problem. I am keeping the original opener and returning the second one as neither will open the Fancy Feast can. They supplied a return label also. There are lots of cans in the world and this is just a minor function situation with this opener. I think it is a great product.
